Solid Workmanship – the key to energy efficiency
The key to a successful energy efficient building is not just in the design and selection of materials. A crucial element is how well the building is constructed and the care and attention that goes into fitting everything together. For example an innocent mistake by a well meaning workman can cause a thermal bridge and ruin all the careful planning that has gone into the design and the expensive insulation that has been bought. Similarly a high specification window may perform no better than an ordinary one if it is badly fitted. We place a huge amount of importance on the quality of our workmanship.
Our Formula Allows Total Flexibility of Design
Yes we have a formula. (see What You Get and What It Costs) That’s why we are able to keep the price right down and the quality high. But the key thing that makes us unique is that our formula allows for total flexibility of design, and layout. Added to that, we have some new technology in our buildings which really allow us to push the boundaries. So for example we can orientate the building in the optimum direction, take advantage of the best views, and you can have large windows or even glass walls, without compromising the energy efficiency of the building.
A Holistic Approach
There are a lot of interrelated decisions to be made. A carefully thought out holistic approach is the only way to get this right and this is another factor that makes us different.
We will get to know you, your personal preferences, your budget, your life style, the site you have chosen and why. Then we can advise on the appearance of the building, and the orientation of the building, taking into account the ideal internal layout and the best views. We will also advise on the energy balance of the building which will implicate the most suitable insulation and materials, methods of heating and cooling, how we are going to generate power and how much power we will take from the electricity supplier. Similarly we will advise on grey water recycling and rainwater harvesting, as well as on low energy domestic lighting and appliances.
